The Marvel Rivals esports team secured its place in playoffs on Thursday with a 3-0 win over Colonial High School of Florida.
Junior Xander Dirling said the Highlanders did well keeping their lead throughout the contest.
“We were ahead the whole time,” Dirling said.
Colonial High put up a strong fight at the end of the first round but ultimately fell short, with Baldwin picking up the first point. Winning the first round secured Baldwin’s confidence to win the match.
Dirling credited junior Mark Hanlon for his efforts during the match.
“The other team target banned him, and he still made it work,” Dirling said.
The team focused on using new techniques to help them succeed.
“We used a new attack pattern called ‘dive.’ It entails just going in and getting rid of the opponent,” Dirling said.
The Highlanders plan to work on their new attacking patterns in advance of the playoffs.
