The boys and girls track and field teams competed at its first meet at Upper Saint Clair on Saturday.
There were 10 schools competing at the meet. Although schools’ overall scores were not calculated, Baldwin did well overall.
“We have a lot of potential this year,” said sophomore Rebecca Gruntz, who participated in high jump, triple jump, and long jump.
“I received a medal in high jump for third place,” Gruntz said. “I got a ribbon for sixth place in triple jump, and in long jump, I got 11th.”
Gruntz said her performance did not meet her usual levels, she knows she can improve.
“I just need to focus on consistency and improving at the next meet,” Gruntz said.
Freshman Cheyanne Trout performed well for Baldwin, Gruntz said.
“She did extremely well,” Gruntz said. “She got second place in the 3200 at a varsity meet as a freshman.”
Sophomore Charlotte Fauls participated in the 100-meter hurdles, long jump, and triple jump. Despite the good results, Fauls thinks that there are still improvements to be made.
“I had really good competition, so I pushed myself hard. But I could improve by having a better attitude,” Fauls said.
Freshman Mia Schwarzmiller stood out, as she placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles.
“Mia showed great determination, especially since she placed so high as a freshman at a varsity meet,” Fauls said.
The team’s next meet is at home on Saturday.
