The Baldwin baseball team had a tough 7-3 loss to Butler on Tuesday in their first regular season game.
Although the Highlanders lost the game, they kept it competitive. In the last inning, Baldwin started a comeback, scoring two runs, but came up short.
“Our start was not good or bad, because Butler is one of the better teams in the WPIAL, and we gave them a good fight. I think we will keep getting better and better each day,” junior Ethan Helbling said.
Junior Gavin Sakely agreed on the competitive comeback.
“We kept our heads in the game, and even when we were down, we started a comeback,” Sakely said.
Going into the next game, Helbling said the team needs to work on their two-strike approach at the plate, not looking at the third strike.
Despite the loss, several Baldwin players stood out during the game.
“Diesel Hartman only allowed one run in the four innings he pitched, and (freshman) Hudson McKain had his first varsity hit,” Sakley said.
Their next game is at 4 p.m. today at home against Peters Township.
