Representatives from dozens of school districts across the country will be visiting Baldwin-Whitehall School District on Tuesday to learn about some of the district’s most innovative programs.
The visitors are members of the Digital Promise League of Innovative Schools, which connects about 150 of the most innovative school districts nationwide.
Dr. Janeen Peretin, the assistant to the superintendent, is excited for the event.
“It’s truly an honor, and I’m excited for our administrators, faculty, staff, and students to share their experiences about being part of Baldwin-Whitehall,” said Peretin, a Baldwin graduate. “You don’t realize just how special our schools and programs are until you see firsthand the incredible opportunities we provide every day.”
This is Baldwin’s first time being a host since joining the league in 2017. It is also the Pittsburgh region’s first time hosting since Baldwin joined, with about a dozen other area schools also welcoming visitors at their buildings.
Peretin said it is nice to see the district get recognition for creating innovative education programs.
“We’ve dedicated years of hard work to numerous projects, and now we’re seeing those efforts come into full bloom,” said Peretin. “Baldwin-Whitehall has had many unique programs, like our Special Olympics, that have thrived for decades thanks to the dedication of our staff and community. I believe visitors will not only witness this success but also take ideas and inspiration back to their own districts through their observations and interactions with our students and faculty.”
The visitors will arrive at the high school about 11:30 a.m. and learn about such programs as Best Buddies, Special Olympics, and the Partners program at an expo.
They then tour the high school with stops at locations such as the library and Think Tank, the American Sign Language classroom, the Do-It-Yourself classroom, the esports room, and the Innovation Shop. Visitors also will have the opportunity to tour the middle school and elementary schools.
