The Baldwin esports Super Smash Bros. team defeated the Notre Dame Crusaders of Easton, Pa., 3-2 on Thursday.
“This game was difficult due to some lag we had with our connection with the opposing school. I thought our team did a good job overcoming some adversity in this respect,” Coach Nathan Elias said.
Despite the extra challenge, Baldwin pushed through to clinch the win.
“Zach (Czapko) did a great job winning two sets, and Christian (Hritz) overcame an earlier set loss to take the last set, sealing the match in Baldwin’s favor,” Elias said.
“For the next match, we will continue to practice and work on our matchups. We always try to research what our opponents play beforehand and get practice against those specific characters, so we are more ready come game day,” Elias said.
This victory makes the team’s record 4-2. Their next match will be on Wednesday against Elizabethtown High School.
“We have two weeks left before the playoffs start,” Elias said. “Currently, we are ranked 30th in the league, and it seems like the bracket will be 32 total teams. So our performance in these last two weeks will be very important.”
