The Baldwin boys tennis team beat Thomas Jefferson on Wednesday, 4-1.
Much of the boy’s success came from their serves.
“Our serves were great and TJ had a hard time defending them,” senior Kelson Kleinhampl said.
Junior Carter Smeal was a standout player for the Highlanders, Kleinhample said.
“Carter played a big role in our win yesterday,” Kleinhample said. “He rallied really well and had a lot of nice points.”
Kleinhample also played well alongside senior Sam Vogel.
“Sam and I played very well in our doubles match,” Kleinhample said. “We beat them 6-0 and 6-1.”
Freshman Brandon Esek and senior Tyler Hartung stood out in doubles as well, Smeal said.
“Brandon and Tyler played a great match,” he said. “They did a great job staying with it to win in three sets.”
Kleinhample said that the boys can still make improvements, particularly in play along the sides of the court.
“We need to guard the alleys better,” he said.
Smeal said that the boys are continuing to work on serves and consistency, but they are looking forward to section matches.
“We have had a lot of close matches this season, but we want to continue to get more match wins, especially in section,” he said.
The Highlanders next play at Shaler at 3:30 p.m. today.
