The Baldwin softball team on Wednesday came up with a 6-2 win over Norwin, a team the Highlanders had lost to twice last season.
Freshman Cam Temme said the whole game shifted when junior Avery Herrington hit a home run.
“Avery’s home run stood out to me because she was the first one to get a big hit during the game, and that gave us all of the momentum,” Temme said.
Although the Highlanders hit well towards the end of the game, their defense stood out the most.
“Our pitchers got a lot of ground balls and our defense made the plays,” Temme said.
The Highlanders pulled away late, getting most of their runs in the later innings.
“We had very timely hitting. We hit when it mattered, and our energy was great,” senior Ryley Shaw said.
The Highlanders had to fight the whole game due to Norwin’s strong pitching.
“The first few innings, Norwin’s pitcher was playing really well and we struggled getting on base,” Temme said.
Although the Highlanders came out on top, they are always looking to improve.
“We have to start faster and get out to leads earlier, so we don’t have to keep clawing back at the end,” Shaw said.
The Highlanders will take on the Butler Golden Tornadoes on Friday at 5 p.m. at home.
