Baldwin softball started the season with a big 8-1 win over Canon-Mac Friday, led by senior Ryley Shaw and freshman Camryn Temme each hitting three home runs.
“It was honestly unreal. I couldn’t believe it was actually happening. It was definitely a big confidence boost,” Shaw said.
Last year the Highlanders lost twice to Canon-Mac, further adding to the importance of the win.
Shaw said the Highlanders got off to a good start and kept building on it.
“My first home run was in the first inning, so we started off very strong,” Shaw said. “We just came out ready to play because we were so excited it was the first game.”
The three home run performance by Temme really stood out, Shaw said.
“Cam is a freshman, so it was obviously very impressive she was able to hit three in her first high school game,” Shaw said.
Then on Saturday, the Highlanders faced West Mifflin and won again, 4-3.
With the team opening with two wins, Shaw is feeling confident that the team will go far this season.
