After a four-year wait, Playboi Carti has finally released his fourth studio album, Music, and it does not disappoint.
The album is 1 hour and 16 minutes long and contains an impressive 30 songs.
Music includes singles that Carti had previously released or performed in concert, such as “Evil Jordan” and “K Pop.” To make these songs flow better with the album, Carti has slightly tweaked them and included extended intros and outros that give a nice consistency. “Evil Jordan” samples “Popular,” a song Carti is featured on with The Weeknd and Madonna, and he creatively uses it as an intro.
Carti has collaborated with artists such as Kanye West and Travis Scott since the release of his last album, Whole Lotta Red. This new album brings no shortage of features, including Young Thug, The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Uzi Vert, Skepta, Ty Dolla $ign, and Future.
Lamar’s adlibs add a nice pop to “Mojo Jojo,” as Carti is well known for using similar adlib techniques in his music. Including Uzi on “Jumpin” proves to be a great addition to the album, since Uzi and Carti are a well known duo due to their unique sound.
The most unique sounding songs include “Toxic,” “Good Credit,” “Crush,” and “We Need All Da Vibes.” Scott’s and Carti’s vocals mix well with the synth on “Crush,” while Skepta’s verse matches the energy on “Toxic.”
Overall, the album has really smooth mixing and a good overall sound. Carti changes how his voice sounds on what feels like every song, providing a never-boring and replayable album.
Music is definitely not Carti’s best produced piece of work, but it definitely suffices, and it gives fans a new sound that they were waiting for.
