Baldwin’s Unified Bocce team lost in regionals on Wednesday at Geneva College.
The Highlanders had earlier defeated Mt. Lebanon to qualify for the regional round of playoffs.
Coach Victoria Sgattoni said she was proud of the team’s performance on Wednesday, explaining that their opponents performed particularly well.
“I would say all of team two did really well, both the athletes and partners,” Sgattoni said of Baldwin’s team. “We talked a lot about strategies this year, and we can take what we saw some other teams doing and use it for next year.”
Despite the loss, senior Samantha Niggel said the team improved significantly throughout the season.
“We’ve gotten really good at communicating how the court plays in order to play our best once we rotate,” Niggel said.
She said Jordan Minor had a particularly strong performance.
“He had a couple really good accuracy rolls,” Niggel said. “He didn’t use too much strength or too little strength on the ball.”
