The Weeknd makes a lasting impression with what he is calling his last album, Hurry Up Tomorrow.
Earlier this year, The Weeknd announced he would be releasing his last album under his stage name “The Weeknd.” This is his sixth album, and it is considered the final part of the trilogy that also includes 2020’s After Hours and 2022’s Dawn FM album.
The tracks “Timeless” and “São Paulo” were early releases on the album, and both songs debuted on the Billboard Hot 100.
“Open Hearts” begins with an upbeat tempo and builds suspense up to the chorus. It has a similar sound to his previous tracks, leaving a sense of nostalgia for loyal listeners.
The songs on the albums have a large variety in mood and meaning. While some delve into redemption from difficult situations, others explore the feeling of loving again and the fear that comes with it.
“Baptized in Fear” talks about acknowledging one’s flaws and getting redemption after being stuck in an inescapable mindset.
“Enjoy the Show” features Future, who specializes in rap, and switches between rapping and singing. The change of rhythm keeps the song interesting during its five-minute duration.
Featuring popular artists such as Travis Scott, Future, Florence Welch, Playboi Carti, Lana Del Rey, and Anitta add a variety of voices to the songs. The features with popular artists help build the diversity of the album.
While the album includes some new melodies, many of the songs have the same impression as his past tracks, giving them a 2010s feel.
A movie inspired by the album will be released into theaters on May 16.
If this is indeed The Weeknd’s closing album, it leaves the perfect lasting impression, mixing his older style along with new rhythms.
