Actor Anthony Mackie returns to his role as Sam Wilson in Captain America: Brave New World, but the movie ends up as a disappointment.
The film follows Wilson two years after he stepped into the role of Captain America. He gets himself into the middle of a global incident after a meeting with President Thaddeus Ross. He has to uncover the truth behind these events and stop a war from taking place.
Sam struggles with not feeling worthy enough to take on the role of Captain America throughout the movie. Joaquin Torres, who takes on the role of Falcon, and Isaiah Bradley, Sam’s old friend and ex-military super soldier, play important parts in helping Sam reach his potential.
Samuel Sterns is the main antagonist of the movie, controlling the super soldiers and the plot to take down the president. He had been imprisoned in his lab because of Ross and was seeking revenge for broken promises between the two of them.
The plot of the movie is interesting and has the essence of familiar Marvel backstories, such as the manipulation of super soldiers and the creation of the Hulk. However, there are a decent amount of filler scenes throughout the film, causing it to lose its intrigue.
This movie is the start of phase five in the MCU. But the iconic Marvel introduction is no longer featured in the beginning of the movie, which eliminates the nostalgic feel that the intro previously gave.
Overall, the movie is not captivating. It has moments of potential and a decent plot, but the dull dialogue and lack of action hold it back.
