Highly anticipated by fans, Symphony in the Sky is Saint Motel’s first album since 2021.
The album itself is energetic and entertaining, but the previously released singles outshine a lot of the new songs, making the album somewhat disappointing.
Saint Motel is a four-member indie pop group most well known for their 2016 album Saintmotelevision. A.J. Jackson (lead vocalist) and Aaron Sharp (lead guitarist) are the band’s founders and main writers.
Symphony in the Sky features singles “Fine Wine,” “Everyone’s a Guru Now,” “Stay Golden,” “Steady Hand,” and “Slowly Spilling Out,” released in 2023 and 2024, with seven new tracks.
“Steady Hand” is a song Jackson wrote for his daughter when she was just a year old. The lyrics express his desire to protect and be there for her. It is one of the more laid back songs on the album and showcases the singer’s upper range.
“Slowly Spilling Out” explores forgiveness and the idea of giving love instead of taking revenge, with lyrics like “Forgiving you / Set me free.”
It also includes the audio from part of a VHS tape from when Jackson was 4 years old as a reminder that everyone, no matter the person they are now, was once an innocent child.
