Violet by L.S. Dunes is a decent album, which is disappointing due to the history of the band.
L.S. Dunes is a supergroup rock band from 2022, consisting of members from popular bands such as My Chemical Romance and Thursday. Their debut album, Past Lives, was a pretty good album, which is what makes the new one so disappointing.
Past Lives had a signature sound that combined elements of the great things about the musicians that made it. While it was not a perfect album, it was enjoyable to hear.
Violet, on the other hand, just seems like it is trying to recreate what the previous album had. The once-fresh instrumentals now sound boring when they are being repeated through every song on the tracklist.
The lyrics also feel very scattered, as they are not structured to have definite meanings. They feel like a collection of notes from a scrapbook, which are nothing special to hear.
Anthony Green’s voice, which has a very high register, is somewhat of an acquired taste. It can get kind of annoying when paired with subpar lyrics and repetitive instrumentals.
If the album was created by a new, unknown artist, it might be easier to see it in a positive light. But being that it was created by popular names, it is hard to not be disappointed in the mediocre product.
