The Baldwin Bowling team placed ninth overall out of about two dozen teams in WPIALs this Wednesday in Mt. Lebanon.
The competition featured teams that finished first and second in their sections in Western Pennsylvania. The Highlanders won their section this year and put together their best record since 2009.
Overall, the team played well, with a total point count of 2,622, senior Jonathan Clemons said. Senior Kelson Kleinhampl said the team got many strikes.
“We definitely had a lot of strikes yesterday. We were throwing good,” Kleinnhampl said.
Clemons said the team’s mood was strong.
“Morale was pretty good. We all just got tired at the end,” Clemons said. “Other than that, we did really good picking up our spares. We had really good games.”
Senior Nico Puglin stood out, Clemons and Kleinhampl said, because of his high scores.
“He was really consistent,” Clemons said. “He shot about 580.”
The team needs to continue work on its strikes, Clemons said, as well as the specific lane patterns for each competition.
“Some of us couldn’t strike, but the thing we need to work on is this pattern. It’s completely different than our house pattern, and I think we just need to work on it a little more and practice,” he said.
Kleinhampl also said that the lane patterns were difficult. The team has practice this Sunday, where they will practice the lane pattern for singles WPIALs next Wednesday. The team also will compete in regionals on March 2.
