The girls basketball team enters the first round of WPIAL playoffs on Friday on the road against Chartiers Valley, in a matchup that features two closely ranked teams that faced each other in an exhibition game before the season started.
Junior Laci Bernotas said the Highlanders are aware of what they need to do to prepare for the game.
“We definitely need to work on boxing out. They have three big posts on their team, and the best thing we have against them is speed,” Bernotas said.
Sophomore Kelsey Meyer agreed that the team will be focusing on a few areas of their game.
“Transitioning the ball from defense to offense quicker will definitely help us out,” Meyer said.
Baldwin is ranked ninth going into the playoffs, while Chartiers Valley is ranked eight. In a preseason game, the Highlanders defeated the Colts, and Baldwin hopes to come up on top again.
“We beat them in the preseason, and if we keep playing like we have the past few games, I think that we’ll be fine,” Meyer said.
Bernotas agreed that the team is mentally prepared for the game.
“They’re definitely beatable. We’re ninth and they’re eighth, so it’s going to be a good game,” Bernotas said. “I think we just need to come ready to play and ready to win so we can go to the second round.”
