Baldwin’s boys basketball team defeated Thomas Jefferson in their final game of section play on Friday, 66-57.
“It feels good beating them on the road, especially since we lost there last year,” junior Max Marzina said.
Baldwin had the lead early, but TJ took the lead in the second quarter. The Jaguars held the lead into the third quarter, but Baldwin battled back and led the rest of the way.
Senior Gabe Barakat said he wishes the team had taken control of the game earlier, but he was happy with their performance overall.
“We could have started the game stronger,” Barakat said. “But we picked it up and got the job done.”
Both Marzina and Barakat agreed that senior Matthew Schenk was a standout player. He rebounded well and was able to finish around the hoop, they said.
Barakat commended TJ for their defensive skills.
“They did a really good job on defense to start,” Barakat said.
Marzina believes they can improve for upcoming games and the playoffs.
“I think we can improve on our defensive skills,” Marzina said. “We let up a lot of easy drives to the hoop that could have been stopped.”
The boys next game is tonight at home against Elizabeth Forward.
