With the score tied against Thomas Jefferson and time running out, junior basketball player Jules Ott lined up a three-pointer and won the game for the Highlanders on Thursday.
“It was really exciting for all of us when she scored because TJ is a tough competitor,” sophomore Kelsey Meyer said.
The final score was 62-59. Thomas Jefferson did not make it easy for Baldwin, as their play style was aggressive, Meyer said. Baldwin’s defensive efforts were strong, as well as their ball movement.
“They kept us on our toes, and there was never a dull moment. The entire game we were back and forth,” Meyer said.
Sophomore Lynsey Bernotas was a standout player, leading the team in scoring with 23 points.
The team can improve on making their shots and passing to an open player to get a shot off, Meyer said.
“It’s important for us to get the final pass for an open player to take a shot, rather than shooting while being guarded,” she said.
This win is important for Baldwin’s playoff standings, as this put them in the top eight WPIAL bracket. This win brought Baldwin’s overall record to 13-8, and their section record to 8-4 in the 5A WPIAL section.
The team’s next game will be at home against Elizabeth Forward at 6 p.m. Monday.
