The Baldwin wrestling team fell on senior recognition to Chartiers Valley Wednesday night.
Senior Ramil Islamov said the Highlanders put in a good effort.
“As a team I feel like we have to believe in our ability to wrestle,” Islamov said. “But I do think that everyone on our team wrestled hard and never gave up.”
Chartiers Valley, though, was able to put themselves in the best position to win, Islamov said.
“They were good at countering our attacks while staying on their attacks as well,” Islamov said.
Besides the loss, Islamov was happy with his performance in the match.
“I felt like I wrestled to my ability – felt very patient – and got the pin when I was able too,” Islamov said.
Islamov also credited his teammate, sophomore Mikey Griffith.
“He had a real hard-fought win,” Islamov said. “He wrestled hard all the way until the end of his match, and he was able to secure a win.”
Since it was senior night, Islamov was happy to spend the time with his teammates.
“I have wrestled with most of our seniors since middle school and built strong relationships with them all the way up until now, and I am thankful for that,” Islamov said.
The wrestling team will participate in a tournament at Montour High School on Saturday at 9 a.m.
