The competitive cheer team competed at states over the weekend in Reading, Pa., and finished ninth out of 21 teams.
Junior Juliana Weiss said that there were multiple performances throughout the weekend, and some went better than others.
“We did better during the semifinals, as there were more mistakes and many falls on the first day. With practicing immediately after day one, we had a much improved routine, which led to almost no deductions on day two,” she said.
Sophomore Victoria Ursida agreed.
“The second day we had all of our stunts up in the air, but it was really hard to recover because the first day we didn’t do great,” Ursida said. “I am really proud of our team for doing so well and keeping all our stunts up on the second day.”
Ursida believes the team’s first-day performance could have been better,
“In general it wasn’t a great day. We had a lot of stunt falls. Everything that could go wrong went wrong,” Ursida said. “We had things fall that just had never fallen before.”
Weiss feels that the team can work on team morale in preparing for nationals.
“We can definitely work on our confidence and keeping the vibes up on competition days. Keeping a positive vibe always leads us to a positive outcome and an overall great day,” she said.
The team will compete in nationals this weekend at the Walt Disney World Resort.
