Girls basketball defeated Uniontown Area 63-23 on Thursday, picking up their third win in a row.
Senior Rebecca Knight said sophomore Lynsey Bernotas in particular had a good game and hustled the whole time. Bernotas scored 19 points for Baldwin.
Bernotas said Baldwin stayed in the lead throughout the whole game because of the Highlanders’ confidence.
“We won because we had a better attitude than the other team, and the other team didn’t work well together like we do,” Bernotas said.
Junior guard Isabella Niles said both Bernotas and sophomore Kelsey Meyers played well.
“Lynsey had a lot of really good passes and was good at getting to the hoop,” Niles said. “Kelsey had a lot of rebounds and steals that our team needed.”
Knight said Baldwin lost focus a bit halfway through the game, but pulled through in the end.
“There was a period of time where we just kicked it up a notch. We were playing pretty lazy for a little bit, but then we kicked it up and got some back to back steals,” Knight said.
Despite their loss, Uniontown had a good attitude and tried their hardest, Niles said.
“The other team hustled at times, which helped them score points,” Bernotas said.
Knight said the Highlanders want to work not losing focus when they get a big lead, and instead keeping their guard up the whole time. Baldwin wants to use the easier games as practice for the more competitive teams.
The team’s next game is at home at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Bethel Park.
