The WNBA season is approaching, and already there have been many shake-ups with players getting traded.
The league is also adding an expansion team this season, The Golden State Valkyries, and Kate Martin of the Las Vegas Aces was traded to this new team earlier this month. Other big trades included Kelsey Plum going to the Los Angeles Sparks, and Jewell Loyd going from the Seattle Storm to the Aces.
These trades have caused significant changes for the teams involved. They have caused upheaval for the players also – especially Martin, who just finished her rookie season.
One rumored trade would have Alyssa Thomas going from the Connecticut Sun to the Phoenix Mercury.
Other players have requested to be traded, but no trade has been made. Brittney Griner, for example, has also requested to be traded from Phoenix after playing 11 years on that team.
Some of the teams involved in the trades were successful last season, like the Aces, which made it to the final four in the playoffs. But these teams will definitely face some downsides when trading many key players.
Plum has been a standout player on the Aces, being a leading contributor on both the offensive and defensive end. Plum took Martin under her wing for her rookie season and helped her throughout the whole season.
Although many fans will be upset to see some dynamic duos and teams be separated, this season is expected to be more competitive and more eventful for viewers.
