The boys swim team’s record improved to 6-4 overall with a 92-72 win over Chartiers Valley on Monday, while the girls team was defeated 101-44.
Junior Carter Smeal thought both teams performed well during the meet.
“We maintained pace in our swims and did a great job competing,” Smeal said. “The whole team did a great job continuing to improve aspects of their swimming and their times.”
For the boys, senior Nathaniel McWilliams and sophomore Tarik Usanovic stood out by winning in their respective freestyle events.
“Nate won the 500-yard freestyle and did a great job with his pacing during it, and Tarik won the 50-yard freestyle and had a great race,” he said.
McWilliams set a personal best time in the freestyle event, junior Katie Gruendler said.
“Nate stood out and did really well on his 500, getting a personal record,” Gruendler said.
For the girls, junior Chloe Griffiths did well in her events, Smeal said.
“Chloe had a very close race and got second in the 200-yard individual medley,” he said. “She did a great job throughout the meet.”
Sophomore Rhiannon Diffendal was another swimmer who stood out for the girls, junior Mason Lewis said.
“Rhia broke her 500-yard freestyle personal record by seven seconds,” Lewis said.
Gruendler thought the team has shown growth but has some things to improve for the next meet.
“We are working really hard and our times are improving,” Gruendler said. “But we need to improve on our basic skills like our starts and turns.”
Baldwin’s next matchup is home against Plum at 6 p.m. Thursday.
