The Baldwin girls basketball team earned a spot in playoffs on Thursday by beating Trinity 56-36.
Sophomore Kelsey Meyer said the margin of victory meant the Highlanders could appreciate the moment.
“In the fourth quarter we were up by a lot, and we knew we were going to win,” Meyer said.
Baldwin took the lead early and maintained control. Part of the reason for that was the play of junior Isabella Niles.
“She had our first nine points and she kept the team motivated,” Meyer said.
Meyers said that personally she did well on defense and sharing the ball on offense but needs to work on communicating.
Despite Baldwin leading the entire game, Trinity also played well.
“They did well with pressuring us,” Meyer said. “They also play good zone defense to keep us from shooting. At the end of the second quarter, they started to sort of come back.”
But the Highlanders took over in the second half and secured the win.
The girls team did not make the playoffs last year. Their last trip to the playoffs came during the 2022-23 season.
The Highlanders play at 6 p.m. Tuesday at home against Albert Gallatin.
