The girls basketball team fell to Peters Township 67-57 on Tuesday.
Sophomore guard Lynsey Bernotas said that despite Baldwin’s efforts, Peters Township played very well.
“We kicked in and really came back, but we didn’t have enough time to secure the win,” she said.
Overall, she thought that Baldwin came back and played hard in the second half of the game.
Junior Isabella Niles said senior Mary Vargo played especially well, helping to change the game’s momentum.
“Mary completely changed the game once her shots started hitting, and it impacted everyone for the better until the end of the game,” Niles said. “The second half of the game we were much more aggressive and were able to make the game much closer.”
Bernotas agreed.
“(Vargo) handled the ball and pressure, showing she can handle the ball no matter what,” Bernotas said. “She also scored multiple times.”
Bernotas said the team was expecting the game to be a challenge, as Peters Township has been doing very well this season. She said Peters plays well on both offense and defense and overall has a solid team.
“Baldwin knew this game would be tough because Peters never loses and is first in the section,” she said.
Bernotas said that there were a few turning points in the game. She said Peters would get a lot of shots and three-pointers in a row, making it hard to come back.
Niles agreed.
“Peters did well getting good shots off and ran the floor well,” Niles said.
Bernotas said that overall, the season is going well for Baldwin. She said that they have been winning a lot and plan to make playoffs this year.
The team’s next game is on Thursday night at Trinity.
