The Baldwin hockey team lost to Latrobe on Monday night, 5-0.
Junior Mack Dempsey said the team played too tense and needed to settle in.
“We couldn’t get into our groove at all and couldn’t put the puck in the back of the net,” Dempsey said.
Latrobe’s goalie stood out, earning a shoutout. Baldwin put 27 shots on net but did not score.
“Their goalie played really well and made some unreal stops,” Dempsey said.
Senior Joey O’Neill said the Highlanders played with energy.
“We played more physically than we usually do,” O’Neill said.
Dempsey saw multiple chances for opportunities to score throughout the game.
“One of their best players got kicked out, so we really tried to pressure them,” Dempsey said.
O’Neill and Dempsey both mentioned each other’s defensive games.
“Mack forechecked real well and held up his end in the defensive zone,” O’Neill said.
“Joey played really well because of his solid defense,” Dempsey said.
O’Neill said the Highlanders had multiple opportunities to score on power plays. In the third period, Baldwin had a five-minute power play, but was not able to score.
“We need to work on scoring on power plays because we had a lot of opportunities but could not finish,” O’Neill said.
The Highlanders look to improve their 3-9 record with a win against Hempfield at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 at home.
