The Baldwin competitive cheer team finished fifth at WPIALs over the weekend, which qualifies the team for state championships.
Sophomore Cali Chraska is proud of their performance.
“It feels great to have qualified. We deserved this after all of our hard work,” Chraska said.
The team showed its growth, technique, and confidence, she said.
“We did very well in our final pyramid,” Chraska said.
Senior Leah Moeller also is happy with the team’s performance.
“I think we came in very confident, knowing what our goal of the day was, and we accomplished it. We went on the floor knowing it was our time to prove ourselves,” Moeller said
Senior Alayna Scanlon performed particularly well.
“She came on the mat with so much energy, and during the routine, she fought for every stunt,” Chraska said.
Freshman Izzi Aranos also stood out.
“I think Izzi Aranos performed very well. As a freshman it’s a very stressful day and a lot of pressure on everyone, as not everything went perfectly,” Moeller said.
Chraska said the team has worked hard to improve throughout the season.
“We have come a very long way and have made so many improvements and adjustments,” Chraska said.
Moeller said the team will continue working as the state championships near.
“We definitely want to be more clean while stunting, which gives us more execution points, and keeps the energy up,” Moeller said.
The state championships will be in Reading, Pa., on Jan. 30 and 31.
