The girls swim team defeated Penn Hills 71-65 on Thursday, while the boys team lost 77-65.
Sophomore Alexis Bendel thought that both teams performed well.
“The girls did very well in individual events, and the boys did great, fighting very hard to make WPIAL for their relays,” Bendel said.
Sophomore Melody Latt said the tough competition from Penn Hills motivated the girls.
“We were pretty close in score to the Penn Hills’ girls, so that pushed us more,” Latt said.
Junior Mason Lewis thought that the team had a good overall performance, with everyone keeping their paces throughout the events.
Lewis also said the transitions between relay teammates could have been smoother, because there were some gaps on transitions between hitting the wall and the next participant getting off the block.
Junior Katie Gruendler said there was one big standout on the boys team.
“Tanner Zalar did well on his 500 meter freestyle – his first time ever doing it in a meet,” Gruendler said.
As for the girls team, Bendel thought senior Chloe Griffiths stood out.
“Chloe won the 500 for us girls,” Bendel said.
