The girls basketball team won one game and lost the other in a holiday tournament.
On Friday and Saturday, the Highlander played in the Elizabeth Forward Betsy Tournament. They won the first game against Gateway, 71-28, and lost in the championship to Elizabeth Forward, 54-51.
Junior Isabella Niles said the team did really well protecting the ball on defense in the tournament.
“We were able to keep Gateway off of us while we were on offense, which created more opportunities to score,” Niles said.
They continued their good work on offense against Elizabeth Forward, but they still need to be able to work better as a team.
“We need to be mentally more focused and stop making mistakes in the game,” Niles said.
Meanwhile, in section play, girls basketball lost 49-33 against Trinity on Dec. 20.
“I think we did really well on defense against Trinity,” sophomore Lynsey Bernotas said. “We were able to protect the ball.”
Bernotas was happy with how the team played overall, but still thinks there are things to work on.
“For the next game we need to be mentally more focused and stop making mistakes,” she said.
The girls resume section play in an away game against Albert Gallatin tonight.
