The Baldwin boys basketball team took down the Peters Township Indians 56-49 on Tuesday night.
This was Baldwin’s first section game, but it could be one of the biggest, because Peters is considered a strong section challenger and they were undefeated coming into the game.
Senior Gabe Barakat said one of the keys to the victory was getting off to a hot start.
“We jumped out on them 11-2 in the first quarter, and that really gave us momentum for the rest of the game,” Barakat said.
He said junior guard Max Marzina stayed very poised throughout the game.
“Max played really well handling the ball down the stretch,” Barakat said.
The Highlanders need to work on staying out of foul trouble, he said.
“We had a couple key guys who had to sit early because of foul trouble. That kept (Peters) in the game,” Barakat said.
Barakat said Peters attacked the basket and got to the free throw line frequently.
“They were able to get to the rim almost every possession, and that led to more easy buckets than we would have liked,” Barakat said.
The Highlanders look to extend their unbeaten streak to seven with a home game against the Trinity Hillers on Friday at 7:30p.m.
