Senior Hannah Damiani’s role as the stepsister Charlotte in the musical Cinderella last year pulled her out of her comfort zone as an actress.
“Charlotte was such a fun role because I was able to be a completely different person. She is a very outgoing and eccentric character, so I got to show a fun and exciting side of my acting that I wouldn’t typically present myself with,” Damiani said.
“Charlotte was my biggest role in high school, having multiple lines and scenes, and I sang a whole song,” Damiani said.
Damiani devotes a lot of her time to music. She is the president of the Tri-M Music Honors Society, and she has spent multiple years in the musical, marching band, Baldwinaires, and honors wind ensemble. She will portray Grover in this year’s musical, Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief, and she plans to study musical theatre in college.
“As President of Tri-M, Hannah assists directors in coordinating Tri-M events, coordinates agenda for Tri-M meetings, and organizes and personally manages any school activity booths,” music teacher and Tri-M sponsor Kris Tranter said.Damiani loves making a positive impact on others through Tri-M.
“My favorite part of being in the Tri-M Music Society is getting to use my leadership skills to help others grow,” Damiani said. “We get to share music with the community and school and that is incredibly rewarding.”
Damiani trains hard for her success.
“I have vocal lessons once or twice a week and acting lessons every two weeks. During a musical or play, I have rehearsal almost every day after school. I also have wind ensemble class every day in school,” Damiani said.
Damiani has been involved with music since the third grade. The flute was her first instrument, and it has stuck with her to this day. Her sisters have been a key influence in her music career.
“I got the most influence from my two sisters, who introduced me to most of the music I listen to,” Damiani said. “They are the reason that I wanted to play the flute.”
Damiani also looks up to Broadway stars.
“Some people who have always been a big inspiration to me are a lot of Broadway singers such as Sutton Foster or Laura Osnes, who both have beautiful and healthy vocals that I have always taken inspiration from,” Damiani said.
In her various music-related activities, Damiani seeks out opportunities to help lead.
“I have student-directed and taught others theater. Tri-M is also making many connections with the younger students and providing them with opportunities to encourage them to stay involved in music,” Damiani said. “I have also participated in things like youth band night, where the younger kids were able to perform at a football game with the marching band, and choir day, where the high school sang with all of the younger students for a full day and concert.”
Senior Eleanora Wilson appreciates Damiani’s influence on other musicians.
“Hannah is a leader for both younger students and me. She was a section leader in the marching band, as well as woodwind captain,” Wilson said.
Senior Marley Murajda describes Damiani as passionate, responsible, and kind-hearted, always trying to help others.
“Having someone who shares the same talent and love for music is a wonderful experience,” Murajda said.
Being so involved with music has helped Damiani in many ways, she said.
“I feel like music is the best way to show your emotions, relax, or just a way to calm down,” Damiani said. “Music means so much to me. It has shaped my life and changed who I am as a person.”
