The boys basketball team came from behind to defeat Penn-Trafford 58-53 on Wednesday.
Penn-Trafford led at half because of defensive issues from Baldwin.
“They leaked people out after our baskets and had multiple open shots and took advantage of them,” senior Jaden Duttine said.
Senior Caden Cherico credited Penn-Trafford’s physicality and teamwork.
“They were one of the most physical teams we have played this season and worked hard as a team. That was able to get them the lead at half,” Cherico said.
The change that Baldwin needed came at halftime.
“At half we went over the changes we needed to make on defense to stop them from getting wide open shots on the fast break,” Duttine said.
Cherico agreed.
“We were able to come back by listening to our coach and playing more physically on defense, which led to us slowly coming back,” Cherico said.
Senior Nate Wesling stood out for the Highlanders.
“Nate led us in points with 18,” Duttine said. “He had some big shots that put us ahead in the game to win.”
Things came together when the boys worked as a team.
“We really worked as a team in the second half and started playing as a team instead of playing as individuals,” Cherico said.
The team’s effort also played a role in the win.
“We never give up on a game because we never think we are out of a game,” Duttine said. “Everyone always gives their maximum effort no matter what the score is.”
Defense will be a vocal point at practice Duttine said.
“Our defense was our weak point in the game, so we will look to improve it in practice,” he said.
The boys will play on 7:30 p.m Friday at home against Brashear.
