The Baldwin boys and girls swim teams competed against Brentwood on Thursday, with the boys winning, 81-71, and the girls losing 79-63.
Senior Nathaniel McWilliams said the boys team did well maintaining their momentum throughout the whole meet.
“Overall, the team did very well with their starts off the blocks, and everyone stayed competitive the whole time,” he said.
McWilliams said sophomore Tarik Usanovic did particularly well for the team.
“He had an impressive performance at the meet last night, getting two personal best times,” he said.
McWilliams said the boys team has some work to do, but they are in a good place to start.
“We still need to work on flip turns, but I would say overall it’s looking like a great start to the season,” McWilliams said.
On the girls side, senior Chloe Griffiths said that despite the loss, the team still competed well.
“Overall, the team did really well. The energy was really high and everyone was cheering for one another. Everyone swam really well and there were quite a few PRs,” she said.
Griffiths complimented junior Katie Gruendler for her performance in the meet.
“Katie Gruendler stood out to me the most during her 500. I counted for her during the race, and I could tell that she was giving it her all. She ended up placing first,” Griffiths said.
Griffiths credits Brentwood’s team for having talented athletes who competed well against Baldwin.
“Brentwood had a really positive and energetic team. They definitely outnumbered us and they had quite a few good swimmers. With that being said, we had better distance swimmers,” she said.
The next meet for both teams is Monday at Keystone Oaks.
