The nu-metal revivalist/shoegaze fusion band Scarlet House has released its first album, Homecoming, which mostly collects their impressive singles.
Despite Scarlet House not being a huge name, the band still boasts some impressive traction on Spotify, around 800,000 monthly listeners. With the addition of Homecoming to finally add some depth to their discography, they will definitely increase in popularity.
On Homecoming, the singles the band has released are now all put together to create a cohesive piece of music. The only new song is “Let Go,” which is the lead single from the album.
Although the songs may not be new to fans of the band, the album is still enjoyable as it contains true modern highs in the nu-metal genre. The lead singer, Kameron Odums, reaches vocal highs while being backed by gritty and distorted guitar riffs, crafting a perfect nu-metal mix. One example is the track “Wanted,” which is easily a contender for best song on the album.
Another notable track is “Blind,” which features the same rough guitar riffs and loud drums, while this time Odums sings a lot harder, showing off his impressive vocal range.
One of the biggest outliers on the album, even though it is an amazing track, is the song “Ghosts.” It has the same instrumentation as the rest of the album, but it has a much slower vocal delivery and almost mumbled lyrics. The sleepy and distorted sound of the vocals help the distorted instrumentals to create a well layered song.
Despite the fact that almost all the songs on the album were earlier singles, the idea that there is finally a cohesive album, with each song following another, adds depth to their discography. This depth is what the band needed greatly to reach a new high in its career.
