MJ the Musical is in town, and it brings a “Thriller” experience to the Benedum Center.
The production highlights the life of the late ‘King of Pop,’ Michael Jackson. But the musical mainly focuses on how hard it was to create and stage Jackson’s biggest show, “The Dangerous Tour.”
Jackson’s success as a singer started when he was a little kid, as he was a part of his family band, the Jackson Five. The musical shows Jackson’s rise to fame and growth in life through the multiple stages in his life, from him being a child entertainer all the way to being an adult.
Jackson was known to be an advocate for peace and justice in the world, and the musical does a fantastic job of showing the type of compassionate person he was.
On the musical side of things, the show includes performances of Jackson’s most famous songs, ranging from “I Want You Back” all the way to “Man in the Mirror.” The best part of the show, however, is the performance of “Thriller,” one of Jackson’s most popular songs. The performance is executed impressively with costumes, fog machines, and intense choreography.
The musical also touches on some of the sadder parts of Jackson’s life, particularly the inner struggles he faced and his self doubt. However, the musical is very upbeat, and the positive moments dominate the show.
Overall, MJ The Musical is a fantastic experience. It will be at the Benedum Center through Sunday.
