Don’t Move is exceedingly suspenseful due to the casting and how well the main characters tap into their roles.
The Netflix original is about grieving mother Iris (Kelsey Asbille), who decides to hike up to her son’s memorial site on a trail. While up there she decides she wants to end her own life, but she is talked down from the ledge by a man named Richard (Finn Wittrock).
As the pair are walking back into the parking lots, Richard kidnaps Iris and injects her with a paralyzing drug. She manages to escape from the car and runs into the forest, but before she takes off, Richard gives her an ominous message: The faster she runs, the faster she will lose the feeling in her body.
Throughout the movie, Iris makes multiple attempts to escape or find a rescuer but cannot seem to get away.
The film is captivating and straightforward, and it keeps to a single timeline so it is easy to follow.
But what puts the film over the top is how well Asbille is at tapping into this role. She has to pretend to be paralyzed for a majority of the film, and while the viewers know it is fake, she still makes the paralysis look real.
Wittrock also does an exceptional job in his role. He plays a psychopath on the inside with an eerily calm exterior.
He is able to fool people they encounter convincing them she is his wife and cannot speak for herself. He is very good at pretending to be crazy, making it feel like Iris is actually in danger.
On the other hand, the movie could have been better.
The writers could have added more characters or a more in-depth storyline. Viewers don’t really get a lot of information about the characters’ backgrounds, and there are really only two main characters. If they had added more detail, the movie would have been even better.
