With a victory last Saturday, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds clinched a seventh-place finish and a spot in the USL Championship playoffs.
The Riverhounds will face off against the Charleston Battery on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in Charleston.
This will be the third time this year that the Riverhounds will face the Battery. In June, the teams ended even, 0-0. Earlier this month, the Riverhounds defeated the Battery, 2-0.
The Riverhounds have been unbeaten since their Sept. 14 2-1 loss against the Tampa Bay Rowdies. The Battery has been unbeaten since their Oct. 12 loss to the Riverhounds.
With the Riverhounds having the league’s golden glove winner, Eric Dick, in goal, Charleston might have a hard time scoring. Dick had 14 shutouts in this season.
On the other hand, the Battery has the league’s Golden Boot winner, Nick Markanich, who may give the Riverhounds’ defense a tough time. Markanich scored 28 goals this season, more than anyone across any men’s league in the country.
This playoff match will be played at Patriot’s Point, Charleston’s home stadium. The Riverhounds usually have a sellout crowd of Hounds fans, so it will be an added challenge for them to play a playoff game in front of a sea of Charleston fans.
The Riverhounds should be able to overcome the Battery because of their impressive record in the last few games and their saving grace goalkeeper.
Fans can watch the game at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
