The slasher genre has been without an original legendary killer for a while now, with most horror movies attempting to recreate or remake the magic of an already iconic killer, instead of striking out on their own and building one from scratch.
Terrifier 3 solidifies Art the Clown as one of the greatest horror villains of all time, alongside the likes of Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Freddy Kruger, and Leatherface. Art is a silent clown who is expertly portrayed by David Howard Thornton. Art manages to balance physical comedy with truly over-the-top violence.
The franchise is known for its gore and brutality, and this installment raises the bar even higher. Modern audiences are desensitized to most violence, so each moment is curated to disturb.
The first Terrifier was criticized for the minimal plot, but that is where Terrifier 2 excelled. Terrifier 3 is no different, with the disturbing actions that Art has taken throughout these movies culminating in the ultimate battle for Sienna and Jonathan Shaw, once again portrayed by Lauren LaVera and Elliot Fullam respectively.
Also returning is the disfigured Victoria Heyes, a victim from the first movie who was possessed by the pale girl at the end of the second movie. Vicky and Art become a chilling duo, leaving lasting impressions in the mind of anyone who comes across them.
As the killers set out on their killing spree, Sienna stays with her aunt and uncle while Jonathan is at college. The two try their best to reconcile their traumatic pasts and the returning threat of the ones who inflicted it. Sienna Shaw legitimizes herself as an all-time “final girl” in the horror genre.
Eventually, Art steals himself a Santa costume in one of the funniest but also most terrifying scenes in the entire movie. This movie provides a disturbing experience for horror audiences who thought they had seen it all, culminating in an unforgettably terrifying finish.
