The Baldwin girls volleyball team lost to Peters Township in their last match of the season, 3-0.
Junior Ruby Hackel complimented Peters on its defense.
“They did well with getting their blocks up, so it made it tough for us. But we still tried to get past it for our final game this season,” Hackel said.
Junior Abbie Mohring said the team competed at the beginning of the match but fell short towards the end.
“We didn’t win, but we played really well in the first two sets and competed with them,” Mohring said.
Hackel said freshman and middle hitter Chelsey Weber stood out for the team on defense.
“She did really well for being a freshman on varsity, and I am really excited to see what she does next year,” Hackel said.
The team ended the season with a 2-8 section record and 4-11 overall. Mohring said the Highlanders are still improving since there are a lot of sophomores and freshmen on the team.
“I think we grew as a team and we had a really hard section, so we did better than we thought we would,” she said.
Looking toward next season, the team will lose two great seniors, Mohring said.
“Avery Barrett and Kaylee Smolko were a huge part of the team,” Mohring said. “It will be very different next year because we won’t have them.”
