The marching band scored 78.3 out of 100 at their competition at Yough High School on Saturday.
This was an improvement from their last competition, where they scored a 76.1. Baldwin also took first place, as there were no other bands in their division.
This year, the marching band has a new director, Zachary George.
“He’s been really great and has taken our advice seriously,” junior Zaynah El Maghrabi, a drumline section leader, said. “He has encouraged us to be the best versions of ourselves we can be.”
Sophomore and color guard member Melody Latt said the color guard did great work with the new material on Saturday.
“Chloe Barnhart did amazing with all the new guard work,” Latt said. “We just learned work that day and had to put on the field the exact same day.”
There are still things that need to be improved on with the new material, Latt said. However, the band did a great job overall, El Maghrabi said.
“We did really well during our drum break in movement three,” El Maghrabi said. “The band also had a great visual impact in movement two.”
The improved score on Saturday showed growth. Overall, the band just needs to work on self-discipline, El Maghrabi said.
“We could work on holding ourselves to a higher standard,” she said.
Their next competition is Oct. 19 at Baldwin High School.
