With the MLB wild card round ending, four teams – the Tigers, Royals, Mets, and Padres – moved onto the National and American League divisional series. But it will not be easy for them to move on.
The Detroit Tigers will be facing the Cleveland Guardians in a faceoff between two AL Central teams.
The Guardians got a first-round bye and are looking to dominate the Tigers. The Tigers sweeping the Astros in the wild card was a big surprise, but with their pitching, they have a chance against their division rival.
The Guardians’ starting pitching is not incredible, but they have one of the best closers in baseball, Emmanuel Clase. Neither team has amazing bats, but the Guardians do have Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan, two of the better hitters in the league. This series will be very interesting and will result in close scores.
The Kansas City Royals will take on the New York Yankees. The five-seed Royals swept the Orioles in the wild card round and they are playing another AL East team.
This will be a great matchup, with both teams having MVP contenders, Bobby Witt Jr. and Aaron Judge. Both the teams have the bats and so it will come down to the pitching. The Royals have a better starting rotation, but the Yankees have a better bullpen.
The Philadelphia Phillies also will play a division rival, the New York Mets. The Phillies have one of the best pitching staffs in all of baseball, and with the Mets struggling to produce runs and barely defeating the Brewers in the wild card round, the Mets’ bats will have to improve.
The Mets have two key pieces in their lineup: Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor. Alonso is a huge power threat and is the reason why the Mets are in the series, with his go-ahead home run in the ninth during game three of the wild card. Francisco Lindor is a reliable five-tool player.
The Phillies have Bryce Harper and Trea Turner, who are well rounded players. With all the weapons Philadelphia has, this should not be a hard series for them.
Two California teams will battle it out, as the San Diego Padres will take on the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers and Padres series will be the most entertaining series.
The Dodgers have the best player in baseball, Shohei Ohtani, along with many other amazing players. The Padres also have some of the best pitchers in baseball, along with veteran and rookie hitters. Baseball fans will not want to miss these games.
The games start on Saturday as Detroit takes on Cleveland at 1:08 p.m.
