Katy Perry’s new pop album, 143, provides a fun summer beat, similar to her older songs.
Perry explained in an interview that the album’s name signifies an “angel number” that helped her through tough times and also means “I love you.”
The opening song, “Woman’s World,” has been earning plays on streaming services for a couple of months, but the new songs are also great.
For example, “Crush” talks about finding someone new and starting to develop feelings for them. She uses “La, da-da-dee / La, da-dee / La, da-da-dee” in her chorus to describe her heart when she sees her crush, similar to a high school crush.
However, the song “Lifetimes” has the same fun, upbeat instrumentals, but the lyrics are about a deeper love, talking about loving someone until the end of time.
Even though the album is similar to her older music, she has new features that add to her songs.
The song “Gimme Gimme,” featuring 21 Savage, is not as upbeat, displaying Savage’s style a little bit. The lyrics talk about a fun love once again.
Yet “Gorgeous,” featuring Kim Petras, has a different vibe. It is much more flirtatious than the other songs.
The album seems to be telling a story of Perry going from being single and flirty to finding someone and falling hard for them.
“I’m His, He’s Mine,” featuring Doechii, talks about having a secret relationship with someone. Even though the relationship is unrevealed, Perry expresses how she is the only one for her significant other and how they obsess over each other.
This album continues Perry’s distinct style in her discography. Although the lyrics have a deeper meaning, her use of fun beats appeals to many people.
This is a great listen for anyone who liked Perry’s previous music but wants to listen to something new.
