The Baldwin girls soccer team, which is currently second in the section, defeated Connellsville 2-0 at their senior recognition game on Wednesday.
Sophomore midfield Kelsey Meyer scored one of the two goals and assisted on the other. She thought that overall the team played hard.
“Baldwin succeeded in keeping our composure when playing through a tough first half,” Meyer said.
Senior defenseman Milana Winowich agreed that the team played well.
“We took advantage of the opportunities we had,” she said. “Even on the ones we couldn’t get, we still tried.”
Meyer and Winowich agreed that senior forward Mary Vargo stood out during the game.
“She’s great at working back on defense to help the midfield,” Meyer said. “She got shots and passed off when we needed it the most.”
Vargo scored the second goal of the game. Winowich recognized the effort she put in.
“She always works the hardest and got us a goal tonight,” she said.
Winowich said the team will work on communicating and attacking together for their next game.
Meyer said Connellsville played some good entry balls across the sideline and said that was one area Baldwin would work to improve on.
“We need to work on focusing on the field, communicating, and cutting off the other team’s entry passes,” she said.
The team’s next game is on Monday against Canon Mac at home.
