Christ Dillinger’s Based Negative Squad, released back in January, is arguably the best project of the year in the underground/emerging hip hop scene. It blends creativity with constant pop culture and trendy references in some of the funniest bars in the scene currently.
The song “Christ Dillinger’s House Part 2” is a perfect example, mixing comedic lyricism, next-level production, and a spectrum of features from emerging artists from a variety of scenes.
Dillinger has been on an astounding run through his collaborations with artists like Acid Souljah, DJ Smokey, Shadow Wizard Money Gang and members of the rap group Shed Theory. Dillinger’s collaboration with DJ Smokey in particular has resulted in some truly revolutionary trap beats that will make waves in the scene for years to come.
The songs “Olympic Gold Metal Like I’m Michael Phelps” and “Based Negative” both contain exceptional beats from DJ Smokey, Ledderick, and Shadow Wizard Money Gang. The beats for these songs and for the majority of the album sound like electronic beats mixed with classic trap beats circa Gucci Mane and Lil B era.
The mixing is also smooth throughout the entire album, with everyone’s verse sounding strong and fitting nicely with the beat.
