Black Myth: Wukong captivates players through the story of the legendary Chinese monkey king Sun Wukong.
Black Myth: Wukong by Game Science was one of the most anticipated games of 2024 and it lives up to expectations. According to IGN, it sold over 10 million copies in just three days of its release.
Journey to the West, a Chinese novel from the 16th century, inspired the game’s story. The game takes elements from the Dark Souls and God of War franchises for movement and combat.
At the start of the game, the Monkey King, Sun Wukong, is defeated and sealed inside a rock. You, The Destined One, are recovering six relics, which are said to contain his soul, to revive him.
The game heavily emphasizes dodging, unlike Souls games where players are given the option to parry the enemies’ attacks. Though players can unlock a parry skill later in the game, they don’t have access to it at the start. The player has a staff and multiple skill trees where he or she can choose their path based on the desired spells and moves.
Don’t worry about dying in this game: Keepers Shrines are checkpoints where players can fast-travel, heal, equip different spells, and respawn. These are similar to Sites of Grace in Elden Ring.
The visuals of this game are stunning, providing a more life-like feel and a better experience.
The game is overall fun. But it’s not for players who aren’t fans of difficult games where it takes multiple tries to beat a boss.
