Tyler Childers’ 2017 album, Purgatory, provides the perfect mix of traditional country, bluegrass, and folk.
Although his might not be the first name that comes to mind when fans think of country music, Childers has become more recognized these past few years. This album put him on the map, with many of his most popular songs on it, such as “Feathered Indians,” “Whitehouse Road,” and “Lady May.”
They are all original songs with a lot of meaning behind them. His storytelling is amazing, as his songs almost sound as if listeners were having a conversation with him. He tells stories of old lovers, tough times, and more.
The album contains no features, but not many of his albums do. His solo, old-fashioned style cannot be compared to anyone else in the industry.
Another cool part of the album that not many people know is that it was produced by country music legend Sturgill Simpson, who is also good friends with Childers.
Childers makes everything in his music unique and personal. He even goes as far as to tell a story through his album covers. The album cover for Purgatory is the same shape as Lawrence County, Kentucky, the place where he was born.
