The Met Gala is one of the most anticipated fashion events in the U.S., but celebrities fail to treat it as such with their lazy attempts – or lack thereof – at matching the theme.
One of the most interesting parts of the Met Gala is the theme. This year it was “The Garden of Time,” in honor of the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”
But to say the least, some celebrities did not “reawaken fashion” with their looks.
For example, Cardi B showed up in a black gown with a tulle train that spanned out across the entire carpet. While it is a nice dress, it was both off theme and not an extremely memorable look. The only standout part of the dress was how unnecessarily big it was.
Sabrina Carpenter wore a dress with a black top and a blue puffy skirt. The look was extremely boring and again failed to match the theme. Supposedly, she and Barry Keoghan coordinated to look like Alice and the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, but the lack of effort or flair ruined the looks.
Another thing that celebrities also tend to do at the Met Gala is rely on shock factor.
Take Doja Cat’s look: She showed up late in a towel “dress” for her first look, and for her second look wore a wet T-shirt dress. Doja especially has a track record for using shock factor to get people talking about her.
Celebrities should take the opportunity that the Met Gala presents to express themselves with more fun and exciting looks.
