Yot Club’s sophomore album, Rufus, offers a diverse range of interesting sounds and powerful vocals.
The indie pop album is a lot brighter than some of his other work, but it does not detract from his emotional vocals. “Stuntman,” “Nostalgia,” and “Human Nature” are all great tracks with interesting vocals and music.
The lyrics on “Stuntman” are very good. The entire song is an extended metaphor comparing life’s struggles with a stuntman falling and getting back up.
“Nostalgia” is also pretty good. The coordination between the guitar and synth is very nice. The way the vocals mix with the instrumentation sounds very good.
The guitar and vocals on “Human Nature” are impressive. The vocals express the emotions of the lyrics really well. The guitar on the track supports the vocals very nicely.
Most of the tracks are pretty solid, but “2084” and “Rufus” are not the greatest.
The drums on “2084” feel a little too loud. The vocals on this track are not great either. They feel a little muted and the effect he is using to change his voice does not sound great. “Rufus” is also pretty underwhelming. It is not very sonically interesting and the lyrics are boring.
