The Baldwin girls softball team split their games over the weekend, defeating Pine-Richland on Friday, 5-3, and losing to North Allegheny on Saturday, 10-8.
In the North Allegheny game, the Highlanders had an early lead, but eventually fell behind.
Junior Ryley Shaw said North Allegheny brought a strong offense.
“NA hit very well and made us make plays in the field,” Shaw said.
Senior Keira Platz said sophomore Maddy Schumacher played well for Baldwin.
“Maddy Schumacher hit a homerun and led us with two RBIs,” Platz said.
Against Pine-Richland, Platz said that the Highlanders played an all-around clean game.
“We had timely hits and limited errors in the field to stop Pine-Richland’s offense,” Platz said.
Platz said the turning point of the game came in the bottom of the fifth inning with sophomore Reese Temme reaching base.
“Reese Temme was able to get on base and then I hit a home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game 2-2,” Platz said.
Shaw said sophomore Jordan Gerendash played well.
“Jordan Gerendash hit a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning and also led our team with three RBIs,” Shaw said.
Platz thought Pine-Richland made it tough on the Highlanders in the field.
“Pine consistently made solid contact and put the ball in play,” Platz said. “But we were able to make the plays in the field.”
