Despite bad weather on Saturday, the Baldwin boys and girls track teams did well at the TSTCA outdoor track championships at West Mifflin.
“Bad conditions handicapped many of the times,” senior Kurt Maiden said.
The headwind was another big issue the runners faced.
Some Baldwin runners finished in the top eight, earning a medal. Senior Jonas Ruvolo took seventh in the 200 meter, and both boys and girls 4×800 placed seventh. Senior Marcus Toto took first and senior Jake Kunzman finished third in the long jump, discus and javelin. Toto also finished fourth in the triple jump.
“Brooklyn Lucas did the best for girls,” senior Kurt Maiden said.
Senior Brooklyn Lucas tied for first in the shot put. “I threw 35 feet and 7 inches in shot and tied for first … out of 91 throwers,” Lucas said.
Brooklyn also threw javelin, throwing 105 feet and 5 inches placing ninth out of 74 competitors.
“The wind made it hard. It was so strong it would fight my throws, and it made it super cold in the morning before the sun came up,” senior Brooklyn Lucas said.
Junior Jazzy Green took fourth in discus.
The Highlanders are now looking ahead into the week where they face Mt. Lebanon and Upper St Clair for the section championship meet on Wednesday.
